Cristiano Ronaldo, with 10 goals in his last four Primera Liga outings, may have been capturing most of the headlines for Real Madrid this season but team-mate Mesut Ozil has been equally impressive.
The 22-year-old midfielder, one of the stars of the young Germany side that reached the semi-finals of the World Cup in the summer, has made an instant impact at the Bernebeu and, though not as prolific as either Ronaldo or Gonzalo Higuain, is now as integral to the way Real Madrid play to that pair.
Los Blancos are still unbeaten under Jose Mourinho after snatching a late equaliser against AC Milan in the San Siro on Wednesday and the portents are hardly great for local rivals Atletico ahead of the Madrid derby this weekend.
Atletico haven’t beaten their more illustrious neighbours since the turn of the century, losing 11 of the last 17 meetings.
But Quique Sanchez Flores’ team are coming into the game on the back of a Europa League win in Norway on Thursday, though the coach will be concerned that they have only picked up one point from their last two games in the Primera Liga and, before Thursday, had only won once away from the Vicente Calderon all season.
Atletico may have been able to make a game of it with Real had Diego Forlan been at the top of his game but the normally prolific Uruguayan has been a shadow of the player he was at the World Cup so far this season and that means this game has the look of a home banker.
Real to win by a two-goal margin is 10/3 with 888 Sport.
