Newcastle’s mauling of derby rivals Sunderland will serve to remind Arsenal to guard against complacency in their match at the Emirates on Sunday. The Magpies bounced back from a 4-0 home defeat to Arsene Wenger’s side in the Carling Cup just over a week ago to inflict a 5-1 thrashing to one of the Premier League’s meanest defences. Shakhtar Donetsk also demonstrated that previous results can count for nothing other than to inspire your opponent when reversing a 5-1 defeat at the Emirates with a 2-1 win in the Ukraine. But if Arsenal can deal with the threat of Andy Carroll and Shola Amoebi, three points will take them back to second place in the Premier League standings. Wenger is expected to recall captain Cesc Fabregas and Andre Arshavin to the midfield after the duo were left out of the trip to Donetsk in midweek. Fabregas was rested as a precaution after feeling a twinge in his hamstring and looks certain to start while Arshavin who picked up a virus may have to take to the bench after Theo Walcott has returned in goal scoring form and Samir Nasri has arguably been Arsenal’s best player so far this season. Walcott has used his electric pace to score 7 goals in 9 appearances and will be hopeful of adding to the brace he scored at St James Park, Betfred stand out with their odds of 13/2 for the England international to open the scoring on Sunday. Robin van Persie and Thomas Vermaelen will be ready to return next week, but until then Marouane Chamakh and Nicklas Bendtner remain more than useful strike options while Sebastien Squillaci is expected to continue in the central defence. Newcastle manager Chris Hughton has no injury concerns arising from last week’s win and is expected to field the same side. Midfielder Kevin Nolan has reaped the benefit of the mayhem Andy Carroll and Shola Ameobi can cause in the box; he grabbed a hat-trick last week and is Newcastle’s top scorer with 7 Premier League goals. Online bookmaker Unibet are offering odds of 33/4 for Arsenal to win 3-0, a score they have inflicted on Newcastle in their last three visits. Possible starting lineups: ARSENAL: Fabianski, Sagna, Squillaci, Koscielny, Clichy, Walcott, Fabregas, Song, Wilshere, Nasri, Chamakh NEWCASTLE UNITED: Krul, Simpson, Coloccini, Williamson, Jose Enrique, Tiote, Barton, Nolan, Gutierrez, Ameobi, Carroll.
