No matter how hard manager Chris Hughton tries to keep a lid on things, Geordie ebullience is threatening to swamp his Newcastle United team after a third successive Premier League win against Arsenal on Sunday. Following hard on the heels of a 5-1 demolition of arch-rivals Sunderland that win at the Emirates has probably convinced most of Tyneside that the Magpies are on course for a Champions League place at least and even the manager is struggling to hide his excitement over Andy Carroll’s form. Despite continuing speculation over his personal life, the 21-year-old’s performances appear to have put him on the verge of the England squad and his aerial battle with Blackburn defender Christopher Samba may well be key to the outcome of United’s clash with Rovers at St James’ Park. Blackburn have probably been playing a little better than recent results suggest but they collected a vital three points against Wigan last Saturday and Sam Allardyce will now want them to edge away from the foot of the table. Rovers haven’t scored more than two goals in any of their 11 league games to date and have only scored 11 times in total. But the return of fitness of David Dunn should give them some new impetus going forward and it’s only 11 days since they outplayed Chelsea for the best part of 70 minutes. Newcastle could receive a bit of a reality check if Rovers play to their potential and the visitors are certainly worth a bet at Victor Chandler’s 2/1 in the Draw No Bet market.
