If as expected Alan Pardew is appointed as Newcastle Manager at lunchtime today the 49 year old former Southampton , West Ham and Charlton boss will face a very tricky group of games starting with the visit of Liverpool this Saturday .
The Magpies are currently 12th in the Premier League but have only four points more than Wigan Athletic who are in a relegation position . In December Newcastle follow the Liverpool game with a trip to Birmingham before entertaining Manchester City on Boxing Day and a trip to White Hart Lane to face Spurs on December 28th .
Having taken only two points from their last five Premier League games Newcastle are on the wrong kind of roll and could easily end 2010 in serious relegation trouble .
Some bookmakers have already compiled some special bets on Newcastle with Bet365 quoting a very unattractive 5/2 for Newcastle to finish in the top half of the Premier League this season and 13/8 Newcastle to not win any of their next four games .
The bet that really stands out however is the 1/2 for local rivals Sunderland to finish above Newcastle this season. The Black Cats are already four points clear of their neighbours with a superior goal diffference and are in far better form having taken eleven points from their last six games in the Premier League since the 5-1 thrashing at St James Park at the end of November .
Pardew may well find the managers hot seat at Newcastle a very difficult place to rebuild his reputation especially as the players and fans will take some convincing that sacking Chris Hughton was the right move for the Club .
