Newcastle United's key player , centre forward Andy Carroll has been ruled out of Sunday's derby clash with Sunderland with a thigh injury .
Carroll who has been capped for England this season has missed the last three games for the Magpies with the injury and was sent to Dubai last week by Manager Alan Pardew in an attempt to aid his recovery . With eleven goals so far this season , Carroll has attracted the attention of many clubs with Tottenham apparently having a £17M bid turned down for the 21 year old earlier this month.
In the last few days bookmakers have cut the odds on Carroll leaving Newcastle in this January transfer window to 6/4 .
Newcastle Manager Alan Pardew was at pains to be honest with the press and fans and said :" “Andy won’t play. He’s not even close really...he won’t play this weekend and we feel that Tottenham(Newcastle's following game) could be a doubt as well. After that, he should be fine.”
Newcastle will also travel without tough tackling midfielder Cheik Tiote whilst Sunderland have late fitness tests for Danny Wellbeck and Lee Cattermole .
The odds on a Newcastle win can be expected to drift in Carroll's absence and the Geordies are currently a best price of 3/1 with William Hill to complete a season double over their Wearside rivals
