British number one Andy Murray takes another step in his bid for the Wimbledon men’s singles title when he meets seasoned campaigner Ivan Ljubicic in the third round.
Online bookmakers are giving free bets to new customers which can be used to bet during Wimbledon, receive a free tennis bet when placing a bet on the Wimbledon Championships.
Murray’s progress has been straight forward so far, after dropping the first set against Daniel Gimeno-Traver in round one he won the next six consecutive sets with relative ease to set up the clash against the 32-year-old Croatian.
Ljubicic was once rated as high as number three in the world but has never progressed beyond the third round at Wimbledon and will be making his first appearance on Centre Court. Ljubicic said: "It's really the only court on earth that I haven't played on. I'm really excited about going out there and showing the British people what I can do.”
While the Croat has won just six matches in 11 visits to SW19, he has beaten the British number one three times in the past, most recently in Beijing last year for the loss of just five games. Ljubicic is acknowledged as having one of the best returns of serve and it promises to be a fascinating match-up as Murray’s service game is one of his biggest assets.
Meanwhile Murray always appears to relish the challenge of playing against stronger opponents: "The pressure is nicer in some ways once you manage to get through a round or two. Now you're not necessarily expected to win the matches easily. The matches are going to get very tough," he said.
Murray is a 7/1 chance at bwin for this year’s tournament when he would become the first British player to win the Wimbledon men’s title since Fred Perry 75 years ago.
He is almost unbackable for this third round match, 1/11 at Unibet and more interesting could be the odds for the set betting. Murray is strongly fancied for another straight sets win, 8/13 at Victor Chandler while Stan James and William Hill offers odds of 3/1 for Murray to win 3-1, Stan James bet 10/1 for Murray to win in the fifth set.
Party Bets think the top four seeds will cruise to the semi finals without dropping many sets, they bet 11/10 Ljubicic will take at least one set and if he fails to do so, but loses a tie-break, Party Bets will refund the losing stake as a free bet up to €25.
