Spurs midfielder Scott Parker has been well backed to be England Captain for their opening Euro2012 fixture following Fabio Capello's resignation amid expectation that current Spurs boss Harry Redknapp will take become the next permanent England manager.
Parker is still available at odds of 11/4 with BetVictor (formerly Victor Chandler) but is as short as 2/1 with other bookmakers including Ladbrokes and Skybet.
Steven Gerrard remains the bookmakers favourite to be the England captain for the opening Euro2012 game against France on June 11th but can now be backed at evens with Ladbrokes to do so.
The two midfielders head the list of candidates to replace Terry as England captain, with Manchester City's young goalkeeper Joe Hart also a strong alternative. Hart is a general 8/1 chance with most bookmakers and is one of the few England players who seem certain to start the game.
Gerrard is an established choice for the captaincy, authoritative, experienced in the role for club and country, who led England at the 2010 World Cup and would represent a smooth transition but he is no longer a certain starter for Liverpool never mind England.
Parker has been mightily impressive this season and at the age of 31 still seems to be improving and seems more likely than Gerrard to command a regular place in a team that is long odds on to be selected by current boss Redknapp
