Odds for Hernadez to score for Manchester United against Ajax

Javier Hernandez - Freebets

Javier Hernandez is in line to start for Manchester United against Ajax in the Europa League clash in Amsterdam on Thursday.

Two of the biggest names in European football face each other in the knockout stages of UEFA’s secondary competition and while it’s not the ideal occasion for the two former European Cup winners to meet, Hernandez admits United have to accept the situation and get on with the job of trying to win the Europa League.

"We have won a lot of European Cups between us, so it will be a very interesting game,” said Hernandez.

"We need to get used to the fact we are not in the Champions League this season and the history of Manchester United is such that it doesn't matter which competition you are in, we want to win it, no matter who else is in it, or whether it is an important trophy for other teams."

Online bookmaker Paddy Power is betting 17/20 for Manchester United to win this clash between two clubs with seven European Cup wins between them. There’s one of the famous Paddy Power Money Back Specials available on this game, with a free bet refund on selected markets if Manchester United lead at half time but fail to win the match.

Hernandez has had limited chances to feature for Manchester United so far this season, due to a combination of injury and the emergence of Danny Welbeck who seized his first team opportunity with a string of outstanding performances.

The 23-year-old Mexican striker has been starting from the bench of late and came on to grab the equaliser in the famous comeback against Chelsea on 5th February when Manchester United recovered from being 3-0 down at Stamford Bridge. Hernandez was on the bench again for the visit of Liverpool on Sunday and wasn’t required as Sir Alex Ferguson left the team unchanged for the full 90 minutes of the 2-1 win at Old Trafford.

Hernandez could get a rare chance to start on Thursday as Ferguson chooses to rest some of his senior players. Ryan Giggs, Dimitar Berbatov and Patrice Evra were all absent from the squad that headed to Holland on Wednesday morning. Hernandez is 6/4 at Sportingbet to score at anytime against Ajax and 5/1 to open the scoring.
