2016/17 FA Cup

The FA Cup Fifth Round brings together two teams riding the crest of a wave with Tottenham having an outside chance of winning the Premier League and Stevenage pushing for a third consecutive promotion, this time to the Championship.
Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham have received the plaudits as being the most exciting team in the Premier League this season and bookies make them red hot favourites to qualify for the FA Cup quarter finals at the first attempt. The best odds to be found for a Tottenham win is the rather skinny 1/3 at Ladbrokes along with a couple of other online bookmakers.
So what of the chances of Stevenage producing a giant-killing act against the untouchable Harry Redknapp and his men? The odds suggest not much, generally a 10/1 chance bwin is best price at 21/2 for Stevenage to win at home on Sunday.
However Stevenage are no strangers to knockout success, last year they produced the shock of the FA Cup when they humiliated Newcastle United in a 3-1 win at the Lamex Stadium and have won the FA Trophy twice since 2007.
Riding a wave of success that has seen Stevenage climb from the Conference to League One promotion contenders in two years, their first ever appearance in the Fifth Round of the FA Cup will only serve to inspire Gary Smith’s side.
Redknapp is expected to field a strong side for the 30 mile trip to Stevenage as the prospect of Wembley cup final becomes realistic. Emmanuel Adebayor and Louis Saha could renew the partnership that got off to such a spectacular start in the 5-0 annihilation of Newcastle last weekend.
It will be a big test for the Stevenage defence that is yet to concede in four FA cup ties this season. With no out and out dangerman in the forward line, watch out for Stevenage’s 23-year-old defender Scott Laird who has scored seven times this term including the spot kick to decide the FA Cup first round tie at Hartlepool.
