Leeds United responded to Neil Warnock’s appointment with a win against Doncaster on Saturday and are now three points outside the play off zone.
Online bookmaker William Hill is offering 12/1 for Warnock to get Leeds promoted to the Premier League in his first season in charge at Elland Road.
Warnock watched from the stands at the team prepared by caretaker boss Neil Redfearn came from two goals down to beat the visitors 3-2 with an injury time winner from Luciano Becchio. It made for a perfect afternoon for Warnock who signed a contract to keep him at Leeds until the end of next season.
Chairman Ken Bates believes Leeds deserve to be playing in the top flight and wants Warnock to emulate his achievements at Sheffield United and QPR which he led out of the Championship. On agreeing the deal Warnock said: "I feel I have one big challenge left in me and believe Leeds is a club that should be in the Premier League. I want to be the man who is able to deliver this for a set of fans who never cease to amaze me with their numbers and their loyalty.”
Automatic promotion looks a long way off unless the wheels fall off at either Southampton or West Ham but Warnock has fourteen games left to get tenth-placed Leeds into the top six and into the Premier League via the play offs.
After watching a spirited fightback by the players, Warnock said of their play off chances: “I think anything can happen. I think we're a long way from being a top side, if I'm honest, but the lads have got spirit and they showed that today to come back from 2-0 down.
"So 14 games, everybody's trying to help everybody else aren't they, because no-one's running away with it, so you never say never do you?"
In his last role at QPR, Warnock took over a relegation threatened side with ten weeks of the season remaining. His impact was immediate and QPR survived comfortably before topping the table the following season to reach the Premier League for the first time in fifteen years.
