Woods ended a 30-month drought when winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational title, his seventh career win at Bay Hill and the 98th victory of his professional career. It was Tiger’s first official PGA title since November 2009 when he began his crash from world number to outside the top 50 during a period in which he was plagued by scandal and injury.
The 14-time major winner has bounced back to form this season with a top ten and two top-25 finishes in four starts before winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational to rise to number six in the world rankings. With just over a week to go before Augusta, bookmakers have slashed Wood’s odds from 8/1 to 4/1 to win his fifth Master’s title after returning to his brilliant best.
Woods left Graeme McDowell and Ian Poulter, second and third respectively, trailing in his wake as he extended his one-shot overnight lead with a two-under par 70 in Sunday’s final round. Now, Tiger can’t wait for the first major of the year and will skip this week’s Houston Open to tweak his game for Augusta.
"I am excited, there's no doubt,” said Woods. "It's always fun to get there and play and I'm looking forward to the momentum I've built up here."
He added: "I still need some work, and it's going to be good to get a week off and work on a few things.
