The European Tour returns to Asia this week for the Ballantines Championship, which takes place for the third year at the Blackstone Golf Club on the outskirts of Seoul in South Korea. This scenic 7,281yd Par 72 course is noted for its undulating greens and run off areas so accurate iron player will be essential this week. Previous winners here, Lee Westwood and Bernd Wiesberger are both powerful ball strikers but this course seems to suit all types of players and has been described as a thinking man's track. Apart from a blustery aftermoon on Thursday the weather is set fair
for the rest of the tournament.
My main fancy this week is 30 year old Alexander Noren who has been in consistent form this season and his two starts at this venue have yielded a 5th and 7th place finish,so the track certainly suits his eye. Hopefully this week will be win number four on The European Tour for the talented Swede.
I also fancy Victor Dubuisson to play well this week despite his disappointing final round of 78 in the Espana Open last week. The Frenchman seems to be extremely comfortable playing in Asia and already boasts 2013 top ten finishes in both the Avantha Masters and the Malaysian Open. He also
finished joint 3rd last year on his course debut so a prominent showing can be expected.
Another player I fancy at a big price is Aussie Marcus Fraser who finished joint 3rd in this event last year and this demon putter excels in this part of the world (he won this event in 2010 at a different venue). This accurate ball striker has been backed at 33/1 and may well contend again this week.
