No Black Caviar this year and with the useful but far from unbeatable Society Rock heading the market as clear 4-1 favourite the 2013 renewal of the Diamond Jubilee Stakes lacks the class normally associated with this Group 1 contest but on the plus side the 6f speed test is a cracking betting heat in contrast to last year when the favourite went off an unbackable 1-6.
No doubt Society Rock deserves to be favourite as the son of Rock Of Gibraltar has the form in the book with a victory in last season's Betfred Sprint Cup along with this contest in 2011 when a 25-1 shot. Fifth behind the superstar mare last year when he could easily have caused a massive upset but for missing the break and failing to get the best of runs inside the last two furlongs. The mount of Kieren Fallon looks sure to run a big race once again but gives the impression he is at his best with some cut in the ground and represents poor value at current odds.
In an open race the two horses who represent decent value and are open to plenty of improvement over the trip are Lethal Force and Rosdhu Queen. The former is a general 12-1 chance while the latter is available at 20-1 with several firms including Betvictor, Stan James and Coral. The Clive Cox-trained Lethal Force is closely matched with Society Rock on Duke Of York form when going down by a head to that horse but despite being 5lb worse off in the weights can gain revenge on the expected quicker ground.
The 3-year-old Rosdhu Queen could prove to be a big danger as the mount of Champion jockey Richard Hughes looked all speed as a juvenile and is sure to appreciate the drop back in trip after failing to get home in Newbury's 7f Dubai Duty Free Stakes ( Fred Darling ) on good to soft ground. The daughter of Invincible Spirit gets a hand weight-for-age allowance of 10lb from most of the field and rates tremendous value at a big price.
Lethal Force - 12/1 (Generally)
Rosdhu Queen - 20/1 (Betvictor, Stan James, Coral)
