It was heatbreak at the death for Martinique in their second CONCACAF Gold Cup Group A game against Panama when an 85th minute penalty from Gabriel Torres snatched a point from the islanders. Les Matinino had started the Gold Cup in remarkable fasion with an unexpected 1-0 win over Canada, but their dreams of making the quarter-finals have been dealt a cruel blow. They must now complete mission impossible and beat Mexico, a team who are expected to go far in this tournament, but have had a little trouble themselves.

Martinique's win over Canada wasn't the only shock in the opening Group A games as Mexico went down 2-1 to a hard working Panama side. El Tricolor put things right in their second game though with goals from Raul Jimenez and a penalty from Marco Fabian helping Mexico to an easy win over a lacklustre Canada team. Fate is now back in their hands and a win over Martinique will send them through to the quarter-finals, although they will not arrive as Group A winners as was widely expected from the outset.
