RBC Canadian Open favourite Brandt Snedeker is tipped to beat a strong field at Glen Abbey this week

A good quality field has pitched up for The RBC Canadian Open, which returns this week to the Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ontario. The Jack Nicklaus designed 7,253yd Par 72 course last hosted this event in 2009, and can be a relatively tough track, especially when the wind blows. The generally small, undulating greens are protected by steep bunkers, emphasizing  the premium on accuracy. With mainly warm fine conditions and light winds forecast this week, expect a low scoring tournament.
From a punting angle, the top end of the market is packed with players who competed at The Open Championship last week, so post Muirfield fatigue, physical & mental may be a factor to take into consideration.
Bearing this in mind, my main fancy is still Brandt Snedeker, who arrives here off the back of a solid joint 11th place finish at the Open. His flying start to the season was somewhat halted by a rib injury, but he has shown in recent events that he is very close to recapturing his early season form. He also finished joint 5th at this track in 2009, so the Glen Abbey layout obviously suits his eye.
At a bigger price, I fancy the in form Nicholas Thompson to play well. His last two PGA starts have yielded a 12th and 4th place finish, and a joint 5th here in 2008 gives added confidence that he may reward each way backers this week.
Another outsider I have a sneaking fancy for is Tour veteran Jerry Kelly, who has shown this year that he can still contend, with an excellent 5th place finish at Hilton Head and a 4th place finish in his most recent start in the John Deere Classic. He is another with course form, having also finished tied 5th in 2009, and his straight driving should be ideal for this venue.
