Will Smith tips Hillstar for the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot
This Saturday’s highlight is the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, a race in which Sir Michael Stoute has supplemented Hillstar, to give him his record sixth win in the race.

Saeed Bin Suroor and Dick Hern have five wins each, and presumably Stoute has persuaded Hillstar’s owner Sir Evelyn De Rothschild to stump up the £75,000 to supplement the son of Danehill Dancer.

In order to recoup that fee or better then the winner of the King Edward VII Stakes at the Royal meeting will have to finish third or better.

A number of firms have gone 7/1 about him winning it, and this looks like an each-way bet to nothing. Having held a Derby entry and thought of as one of Stoute’s very best three year olds, things didn’t quite work out as planned in the early part of this season.

However, stepped up to 1m 4f and with the introduction of hold-up tactics last time, a sudden jolt of improvement produced a performance that connections always felt he was capable of.

The King George has a great shape to it, as with just the eight declared and doubts about the market principles, Hillstar is an outstanding each-way bet at odds of 7/1.

Favourite Cirrus Des Aigles is better at 1m 2f, was disappointing on his seasonal reappearance, and is surely not improving at the age of seven.

Novellist is a big danger, but will want a deluge as he is best on soft ground. Trading Leather had a tough race to win the Irish Derby, that was always his target, and he will want rattling fast ground anyhow.

The only other horse at a single figure price, Ektihaam, will probably set the race up from the front and hopefully produce a nice pace for Ryan Moore to aim at on Hillstar.
