Ascot's high-class card featuring the Group 1 King George V1 And Queen Elizabeth Stakes is undoubtedly the highlight on what is a cracking day's Flat racing, but York also stage a tremendous card and it is in what looks an ultra-competitive 20 runner sprint handicap at 3.30 that the value bet on the day lies in the shape of the Kevin Ryan-trained Bogart, available at 20-1 with bet365.
Winner of three races as a juvenile including the valuable Totepool two-year-old Trophy at Redcar the son of Bahamian Bounty was set some pretty impossible tasks last season when rated 110 taking on the likes of Black Caviar and Ortensia in Group 1 company. The mount of Amy Ryan has been slightly disappointing so far as a four-year-old with the exception of a creditable effort over the course and distance in the Duke Of York Stakes back in May.
Although finishing in eighth place Bogart was beaten a little over five lengths by possibly the two best sprinters in training, Society Rock and Lethal Force, and off what looks a very attractive mark of 97 would take the world of beating if reproducing that effort. The horse led over two furlong out that day and only gave best well inside the last furlong but still managed to beat a number of quality speed-merchants such as Tickled Pink and Mince.
Bogart ran well for a long way off a 2lb higher mark in York's 32Red.Com Sprint later that month, the form of which has worked out really well with runner-up York Glory and fifth placed Duke Of Firenze both going on to land two of the season's biggest sprint handicaps. There is no guarantee as to which Bogart will turn up today but at such odds has to be rated a tremendous value bet.
