Fiorentina director Daniele Prade fired a shot across the bow when claiming that, in Vicenzo Montella, he has a better coach than Juventus manager Antonio Conte. Conte is a Juventus legend from his playing days when he made over 400 appearances for ‘The Old Lady’ and since taking over as manager in 2011, has led his side to the domestic double for the last two seasons.

“Would I exchange Antonio Conte with Montella? Absolutely not. He’s the tactician we’re counting on and we’re growing together,” Prade told Radio Blu.

39-year-old Montella is in his third season as a coach following an illustrious career as a striker in Serie A when he represented Italy 20 times. After a successful season as coach of Catania, when they equaled their best ever finish in Serie A and finished above Sicilian rivals Palermo for the first time in eight years, Montello cut short his contract to join Prade at Fiorentina.

Prade has invested heavily in La Viola and Montella was agonizingly close to achieving a Champions League place at the first time of asking. He has set the bar high and it’s clear Prade is expecting great things of the young manager.

Fiorentina have stuttered after making a bright start and slipped to sixth place after failing to win in the last three league games. On their most recent appearance in Florence, Montella’s side failed to take advantage when dominating Parma and conceded an injury time goal to gift the visitors a point.

Sunday’s visitors have only dropped two points in seven league games and have not lost at Artemio Franchi since 1998. Conte’s side arrive on the back of a hard fought victory against Milan when his players recovered from an early setback to win 3-2 at Juventus Stadium before the international break.
