Yorkshire trainer Richard Fahey confirmed he’d like to give Sandiva a crack at winning the Qipco 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on 4th May following her success in the Nell Gwyn.

Sandiva overcame an unfavourable draw in the middle of the track to beat 14 rivals at the Craven Meeting in midweek to stake her claim for a run in the fillies Classic for which she is generally available at 20/1. Fahey hasn’t committed to running her in the Guineas but is obviously keen to let her take her chance if preparations go well.

Speaking to, the trainer said: “I was delighted with Sandiva’s win in the Nell Gwyn at Newmarket and she’s come out of the race very well. We’ll monitor her over the next week or so but she’s earned the right to have a crack at the QIPCO 1000 Guineas and I’d like to go there.”

Jockey Frankie Dettori produced the daughter of Footstepsinthesand to win handily by half a length from Euro Charline, beating off some promising runners from Newmarket’s major yards. Dettori, who was representing new owners Al Shaqab Racing, acknowledged the leading 1000 Guineas candidates have yet to debut this season but still believes the filly has a good chance over the Rowley Mile next month.

“It was a good performance and she's entitled to go into the Guineas with a good chance. I think basically we haven't seen the main ones, Rizeena and Kiyoshi, then there's obviously [Aidan] O'Brien's and [Andre] Fabre's, but at least my filly has come here and done it," said Dettori who has won the race three times on Caper Verdi (1998), Kazzia (2002) and Blue Bunting (2011).

Fahey’s hopes of a Guineas double took a setback when Parbold finished fifth of six runners in the Free Handicap on Wednesday. The handler was disappointed that the Dandy Man colt did not fulfill the promise he had shown over the winter and must rethink plans following the one-and-half length defeat to Shifting Power.
