Saved By The Bell can get back to winning ways at the expense of Alex My Boy in the Archerfield Cup at 4.00 Musselburgh on Friday afternoon.
The 4-year-old gelding is tipped to cope with the step up in trip today and regain the winning thread at odds of 4/1 quoted by a number of firms including Betvictor and Winner. David O'Meara's charge has been in top form this summer, which has resulted in a hat-trick of handicap wins. Saved By The Bell made a modest return to action over a mile at Hamilton Park before finding only Perfect Summer too good over a mile and a half at Doncaster in May. A return to Hamilton resulted in success and a rise in the weights of 6lb was not enough to stop the mount of Daniel Tudhope following up that success at Ripon in early June. The selection then completed the hat-trick at York a fortnight later despite carrying an extra 7lbs and was far from disgraced when finishing seventh over that course and distance in the Chairman's Cup on his latest outing.
The extra two furlongs to travel today are of little concern as Saved By The Bell is back down in grade and has room for further improvement. Alex My Boy is however greatly respected from the in-form Mark Johnston stable, but his last run at Musselburgh three starts back was below-par and an 8lb rise for winning ad Haydock subsequently is enough to suggest that our tip can wrest this from the market leader's grasp.
