Aston Villa entertain Tottenham at Villa Park this Sunday with Paul Lambert feeling the pressure following five straight defeats without scoring. The Villains started the season on fire, winning three of their opening four matches, including an impressive 1-0 win over Liverpool. Spurs, meanwhile, head into the game on the back of a disappointing 2-1 defeat at Newcastle United and sit 11th in the table, 12 points behind league leaders Chelsea.

 Who Will Win?

It has been a mixed start to the season for Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham but the bookmakers still expect his side to continue Villa’s miserable run of the form. Just one point separates the two sides going into the game but Spurs have enjoyed a superior head-to-head record, going into the game unbeaten in the last 12 meetings, winning the last five without conceding a single goal. And the North Londoners have scored 10 goals without reply in their last three visits to Villa Park.

Tottenham’s impressive record is reflected by the bookies with Villa struggling and going into the game on the back of a 2-0 defeat at previously winless QPR on Monday night. Lambert is certainly feeling the pressure with the Villains enduring a miserable run of form since the former Norwich City boss was rewarded with a new contract. Ladbrokes are offering 23/20 for Spurs, which will see you make a modest return of £21.50 from a £10 bet while Villa fans may be tempted with the 27/10 available with Betfair for a home win, although their form and recent record against Spurs suggests the opposite. William Hill, meanwhile, are offering 5/2 for a draw.

Will There Be Goals?

Aston Villa head into the game without a goal, or point, from their last five league matches and have netted just four goals in their opening nine games of the season, averaging 0.44 goals per game. The Claret and Blue scored just 39 goals last season as they flirted with relegation and Lambert’s men have gone over eight hours without scoring, it is hard to see where the next goal will come from.

The visitors are 11/4 to win to nil with Sky Bet, certainly a bet worth consideration when you look at their head-to-head record and how poor Aston Villa have been in front of goal so far this season. While Spurs have won each of the last five meetings by at least two goals, without conceding, and you can get a tempting 8/1 with Paddy Power in the handicap market for Spurs -2.

Who Will Score?

Andreas Weimann is Villa’s leading goalscorer this season with the Austrian netting two of their misely four league goals. The Villains have not scored since September 13th’s 1-0 at Anfield, however, with Gabby Agbonlahor netting the only goal that day. Christian Benteke, meanwhile, is still regaining his full match fitness after rupturing his achilles in April and made only his second start of the season against QPR on Monday night.

The Belgium international has netted 34 in 69 appearances since signing for Villa in 2012 and if anyone can end their goal drought than he can, the 23-year-old is available at 6/1 with Coral to score first and 9/5 with William Hill to score anytime.

Spurs’ strikers have also struggled in front of goal this season with midfielders Nacer Chadli (4) and Christian Eriksen (3) the Lilywhites top goalscorers so far this season. Roberto Soldado has failed to live up to his £26 million price-tag while Emmanuel Adebayor has netted just two goals in 10 games in all competitions this year. The forward was on target at White Hart Lane last Sunday, however, and the former Arsenal and Manchester City man is the 11/2 favourite to open the scoring with Sky Bet. And you can also get 3/1 with Coral for a Spurs win/Adebayor anytime goal double.
