It's the news that the Anfield faithful knew would one day come, but didn't ever want to hear. Steven Gerrard will be plying his trade elsewhere after this season and online bookmakers have rushed to offer a selection of special bets on the departing Liverpool captain.
Whether you love him or hate him, you have to respect what Gerrard has achieved since making his debut in 1998. His honours include two FA Cups, three League Cups, one UEFA Champions League, one UEFA Cup, and two UEFA Super Cups, with the Premier League the only glaring omission from that list.
At the ripe-old age of 34, Gerrard will end his 25-year stint at Liverpool to move to the United States and play for MLS side LA Galaxy, where David Beckham was also a player between 2007 and 2012.
Beckham went on to play for AC Milan and PSG before finally hanging up his boots at the age of 38, so we may not have seen the last of Gerrard in European football.
Gerrard To Sign Off In Style?
At the time of writing Steven Gerrard leads the scoring charts for Liverpool with 5 Premier League goals (9 in all competitions) and is 3/1 with Betvictor to be top league goalscorer at the end of the season.
Online bookmaker bwin are taking bets on when he will score his last Premier League goal with prices such as evens for Crystal Palace in Liverpool's final home game of the campaign and 3/1 Stoke away on the last day of the season. Others include 5/1 QPR at in the penultimate home game, 6/1 Hull away and a tasty 10/1 Chelsea away in the third last game.
What Next For Steven Gerrard?
bwin are also quoting the current best odds on Gerrard being installed as the next permanent manager of Liverpool at a price of 20/1, while Ladbrokes offer some slightly more unconventional markets.
Gerrard is 1/10 to be spotted courtside at an NBA match before the end of 2015 and even money to star in his own reality TV show before the end of next season.
The 'Flashing Sign' also offer 5/1 that subtitles are used in his first American televised interview, 10/1 Gerrard to star in a Hollywood blockbuster before the end of 2025 and a massive 100/1 that he gets a star on the Walk of Fame before the end of 2025.
