2016/17 League Cup

Chelsea travel to Anfield to face Liverpool in the first leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final on Tuesday 20th January, we preview the game from a betting perspective using recent trends and form to unearth some value bets.
Liverpool hold the recored for most wins in the League Cup with eight and have beaten Middlesbrough, Swansea and Bournemouth to make it to the semi-final. 2007 League Cup winners and current Premier League leaders Chelsea stand in their way of making it to a 12th final having beaten Bolton, Shrewsbury and Derby to set up this tie.
A glance at the match odds in the top right (mobile users scroll down) shows that online bookmakers are favouring the away side and both sets of fans have a golden opportunity to cash in when backing their team for the game which will be shown live at 7.45pm on Sky Sports 1.
Who Will Win?
Liverpool are playing catch-up in the Premier League, but are in pretty good form with no defeat in eight matches in all competitions. Chelsea meanwhile, dropped points at Southampton before losing 5-3 at Spurs, but have hit 10 goals without reply in three consecutive wins since that setback.
Liverpool haven't beaten Chelsea at home in three attempts with the Blues winning on both of their previous visits to Anfield and scoring twice in all four of their previous games against the Reds.
There has been little recovery time for either side with cup and league fixtures coming thick and fast, so with tired legs and squad rotation likely to factor in the outcome it could pay to side with the away team at odds of 6/5 with Coral as Chelsea have a better depth of quality.
Will There Be Goals?
Liverpool haven't failed to score since a humbling 3-0 defeat to Manchester United in December, while Chelsea last blanked in a 0-0 draw away to Sunderland the previous month.
Jose Mourinho's side have certainly shut up shop since shipping five goals at Whitehart Lane and having registered 15 clean sheets in all competitions so far this season the Portuguese tactician will be targeting another shut-out on Merseyside.
Three of the last four meetings at this venue have resulted in both teams scoring and over 2.5 goals, but banking on a high-scoring game could be risky given the way Chelsea are likely to set up and bets on Under 2.5 Goals along with One or No teams to score may be preferred.
Who Will Score?
The hosts left Steven Gerrard out of the squad at the weekend, suggesting the skipper has been rested with this match in mind. Gerrard will assume penalty duties if taking to the field and should therefore be considered as an Anytime Goalscorer selection.
The lack of an out and out striker for Liverpool makes it difficult to nail down a First Goalscorer selection, but Fabio Borini has been fielded in a central role recently and grabbed the opener against Villa, while Emre Can broke the deadlock when the sides met here in the Premier League in November.
Those fancying the hosts to take the initiative will probably be tempted by Coral's best odds of 5/1 on Diego Costa to score first, should the Spaniard start the game. This season Costa has scored 17 goals from 25 apperances in all competitions, including notching on the last visit to Anfield and goes into this game having grabbed a brace against Swansea.
With rotation likley it may be best to wait and see who is named in the starting XI, but Andre Schurrle came off the bench to score last time out and has been known to chip in with a few goals, so has to be of interest as an Anytime Goalscorer at standout odds of 10/3.
Correct Score Prediction:
Liverpool 0-1 Chelsea - 7/1 Coral
