Paris St.Germain travel to London for the second leg of this Champions League Round of 16 tie, looking to keep an in-form Chelsea side at bay, after winning the first leg 2-1 at the Parc De Princes.
Chelsea have lost just once in the last seventeen games across all competitions, with the away defeat to PSG, the only blemish on a superb record. The draw with Stoke City at the weekend, saw a vastly changed side, with the likes of Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas rested for this huge match on Wednesday night.
PSG lost their first domestic match a week ago at Lyon, but returned to winning ways, with a 4-1 win against Bordeaux in midweek. Like Chelsea, the French side made numerous changes for the draw with Montpellier, as they focus on this crucial second leg.
The match betting can barely separate the teams, with PSG very slender favourites at 7/4 (2.75) with BetVictor, while Chelsea are 9/5 (2.80) with bet365. The draw is available at 12/5 (3.40) with numerous bookmakers, including bet365. PSG have more than enough talent to grab the away goal, and the ‘Both Teams To Score’ bet at 4/5 (1.80) with Paddy Power looks a solid choice.
Regarding individual goalscorer bets, the likes of Diego Costa (5/1 with Coral) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (9/2 with Ladbrokes) lead the first goalscorer betting, but Chelsea’s Willian, who has hit five goals in the Champions League so far, looks a great choice to “score anytime” at 7/2 with Coral.
Chelsea have lost just twice in the last 22 Champions League home games. On the flip side, PSG have only won four of the last ten away matches in the tournament. These include a 2-2 draw away to Chelsea in 2015 and a 0-2 defeat there in 2014.
Expect PSG to try and soak up the early pressure, as Chelsea look for an early breakthrough. PSG will want to break up the play as often as possible to break the Chelsea flow and this could lead to mistakes, with the “Penalty In The Match” bet worth consideration at 3/1 with Betfair, especially as sides get desperate towards the end of the match.
As much as I fancy Chelsea to do the job, I cannot discount PSG scoring at least once. So with that in mind, the 1-1 draw at 13/2 with BetVictor is what I’m going for here, which would be enough for the French side to qualify.
