2010 Tour De France: Cavendish To The Fore In Expected Sprint Finish
Bookmakers are offering free bets to new customers on Stage 11 of Le Tour, as the sprinters do battle for the green jersey on the road from Sisteron to Bourg-les-Valance.
Le Tour takes a rest from the recent arduous climbing with a relatively flat stage that should bring sprinters Thor Horshovd, Alessandro Petacchi, Mark Cavendish and Tyler Farrar to the fore.
Once the peloton have negotiated category 3 Col de Cabre they will be left with a simple undulating run of around 130km to the anticipated sprint finish at Bourg-les-Valance.
Mark Cavendish will be hoping to claim his third stage victory of 2010 Le Tour and put more pressure on the green jersey currenty worn by Hushovd.
Cavendish pipped points classification leaders Hushovd and Petacchi in the sprint for spare points into Gap yesterday and Betfred make him 10/11 favourite to win this stage.
Since reaching the Alps, Cavendish has been creeping closer to Hushovd in the points standing and finds himself 41 points behind the leader’s tally of 138.
With 35 points the prize, stage victory for the 25 year old Manx rider will put him in with a great chance to claim the green jersey in Paris.
Betfred are offering odds of 7/1 for Cavendish to win the classification.
Of Cavendish’s likely opponents in a sprint finish today, Tyler Farrar is ideally suited to the stage’s profile.
Farrar has recovered from the injuries which hampered him in the final yards at Gueugnon and bet365 are 9/1 for him to win the stage.
