2010 World Matchplay Darts Betting: Phil Taylor Powers To New Tournament Record
Bookmakers are offering free bets for the Stan James sponsored World Matchplay Darts which continues with the start of the second round at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool tonight.
Ten-time World Matchplay winner Phil Taylor created a new tournament record in his first round win against Barrie Bates last night.
The red hot favourite struggled to hit his doubles early on but recovered to set a new tournament three-dart average of 114.99.
Bate’s was in the game with a 5-4 lead as he took advantage of Taylor’s inability to close out. But Taylor took control of the match taking the next five legs before winning 10-6.
“I couldn’t seem to break his throw early on and then I was missing doubles” said Taylor. “His finishing was superb and he put me under pressure.”
Taylor landed six 180s on his way to setting the highest average ever seen in the event. “To have a record average here is nice but getting victory was all I was focussed on and I did that,” he added. “It shows how well Barrie played that I had to do that to defeat him.”
Tonight’s matches feature the resurgent Raymond van Barneveld who is last up to play Alan Tabern.
Before that Wayne Jones and Ronnie Baxter get the second round underway before a tight looking betting heat between Co Stompe and Mark Webster.
Sponsor Stan James just favour Mark Webster in this clash offering odds on 4/5 for him to win.
Barney’s compatriot Vincent van der Voort is 11/4 outsider against James Wade in the other match of the night.
Full scores from last night’s matches; Colin Lloyd 9-11 Kevin Painter, Mark Walsh 12-10 Mark Dudbridge, Phil Taylor 10-6 Barry Bates, Paul Nicholson 3-10 Steve Beaton.
