2022 Randox Grand National Entries Announced

Seven of the first eight horses home in last year’s Randox Grand National feature among the 107 entries for the world’s most famous steeplechase, due to be run in two month’s time on Saturday 9th April.

While that total is slightly down on what we have come to expect in recent years, a maximum field of 40 runners looks pretty guaranteed for the 2022 renewal.

Last year’s historic partnership of Minella Times and jockey Rachael Blackmore are expected to defend their Aintree crown and should once again face the third horse home, Any Second Now, considered by many an unlucky loser after being badly hampered by a faller at the 12th fence. Burrows Saint, Farclas, Blaklion, Discorama, and Jett are all likely runners after running big races last April.

The Gordon Elliott-trained Galvin has long been seen as a potential Grand National winner. However, the possible top weight is expected to head to Prestbury Park for the Gold Cup before any decision regarding Aintree is expected. Dual winner Tiger Roll, based on his current rating of 155, should receive weight from several potential rivals on this occasion, including Melon, Delta Work, Easysland, Chantry House, Minella Times and Any Second Now.

A Long Range Fancy

Last season’s easy Ladbroke Trophy winner was sent off 11/2 favourite for the race last year and took really well to the fences, jumping well up front until the gelding developed a breathing problem with four to jump.

Following wind surgery a few days later, the 10-year-old seems to be over that problem based on his three outings this season. The son of Beneficial has been running better than his most recent form would suggest. Back on a decent mark of 147, this thorough stayer deserves another chance to provide trainer Jonjo O’Neill with a second Grand National victory.
