PDC World Darts Championship sponsors Ladbrokes.com is celebrating the start of the £1 million tournament at Alexandra Palace in London by giving £60 free bets to new customers.
New customers registering an account with Ladbrokes will receive three £20 bets which can be used to bet on the World Darts or any other sports event.
Play commences on Friday 14 December with reigning champion Adrian Lewis in action against Gino Vos. The preliminary and first round will be held across eight sessions in seven days before the second round and two third round matches lead into the Christmas break. Play resumes on Thursday 27 December and continues until the final which takes place on Tuesday 1 January 2013.
Fifteen-time World Darts champion Phil Taylor is favourite to land his sixteenth title after winning his third tournament of the year at the Players Championship in Minehead last week. The 52-year-old returned to his best form of the year to get through three matches on the final day and lay down the gauntlet to the reigning champion, a former protegy from his home town Stoke.
Taylor crashed out in the second round of last year’s PDC World Championship and will need to be on his mettle against first round opponent Michael Mansell.
Taylor is hoping the challenging start will set him up for the remainder of the event and told BBC Sport, “It’s a tough first round, I’ll make sure I get myself mentally right for it. Sometimes a tough first round sets you up for the rest of the tournament.”
