After loss to Saudi Arabia, Argentina are now 9/1 to win the World Cup

The biggest upset in the competition so far was seen on Tuesday morning in Lusail where Saudi Arabia stunned Argentina 2-1.

La Albiceleste ended the first half with a lead, and no one could imagine the comeback in the second half. After Leo Messi’s goal from a penalty spot, Argentina scored three times in the first 45 minutes but got disallowed by VAR.

World Cup 2022

Of course, this had a massive impact on the “Outright to win” odds, as Argentina’s chances to lift the trophy decreased after this loss. They are now at 9/1 to win the World Cup 2022. That rate was 11/2 just one day before…

Round Two Duel Against Mexico Has Massive Importance for The South-American Side

Argentine coach Lionel Scaloni is most likely going to change the starting lineup for the round two match against Mexico which takes place on Saturday night. Performance of the entire defensive line was underwhelming, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see Cristian Romero, Nicolas Otamendi or Nicolas Tagliafico benched.

We personally would love to see more of Julian Alvarez, Manchester City’s striker who was on the pitch on Tuesday for 30 minutes only. Even the first half against Saudi Arabia wasn’t ideal, where Argentina had to skip the midfield, not reacting properly to high pressing from the opponent. The only goal came from a penalty spot, scored by Leo Messi. On paper, the duel against Mexico should be much harder, especially now with so much pressure on Argentina’s back.

There won’t be any easy road to make up for today’s loss. The only guaranteed way for La Albiceleste to reach the knockout stage is to grab six points in the remaining two duels.

Argentina’s World Cup Odds Lengthen After Losing to Saudis

As mentioned above, the odds on Leo Messi & co to lift the most prestigious trophy on 18th December have lengthened a lot, from 11/2 to 9/1 in some of the Best World Cup Betting Sites.

Of course, the outcome of today’s games in Group C (Poland vs Mexico 0-0 FT) leaves everyone with a solid chance to qualify for the next round. The current odds on Argentina to be eliminated in the group stages are 8/5.

Is there any good news for the Argentine fans?

History says that Argentina have an extremely high win rate in previous meetings against Mexico. These two opponents have met 23 times in the past and Argentina claimed 16 victories, while losing just two games.

The most recent head to head clash was in 2019 – a friendly match played in Texas which La Albiceleste won easily 4-0. Lautaro Martinez was unstoppable back then, scoring three goals in the first half. The Mexicans didn’t show much offensively against Poland and they probably feel good about the draw after Lewandowski’s missed penalty.
