News of a slightly wet weather forecast for Newbury on Saturday has delighted Andrew Balding – as he looks to cheer on his stable stars Tullius and Here Comes When in the Group 1 Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes on Saturday.
However, not even he will be as ecstatic as those racing fans who make a Lockinge Stakes selection with Coral – as the bookmaker will refund losing stakes if your pick is beaten by a head or less.
Simply place a win or each way single bet on any horse in Saturday’s Lockinge Stakes (3.45 Newbury) race and, if they are pipped into second by a head or less by the winner, Coral will return up to £25 of your losing stake as a free bet.
Last year’s runner-up Tullius will be hoping to go one better this time round, while Here Comes When is in good form – after ending last season with two wins, before the five-year-old followed them up with a second place showing to Custom Cut at Sandown on his seasonal reappearance last month.
And trainer Balding is confident the predicted weather can boost the chances of the pair – both currently priced at 20/1 at Coral.
Balding told The Reading Chronicle: “I think Here Comes When is an overlooked horse. He has twice won at Group Two level and ran a good trial when second on his reappearance at Sandown last month. He can take a grip in his races and any rain will help.
“Any rain will also help Tullius, (although) he was a bit disappointing when we ran him over 10 furlongs at Sandown last time. However, he was second in the Lockinge last year and won well on his reappearance over a mile at Doncaster.
“I think they are two lively outsiders.”
