Mourinho Looks To Arsenal For Reinforcements
As the January transfer window is now wide open, clubs across the continent are looking for new additions and with Jose Mourinho continuing his overhaul of the Roma squad, a Premier League midfielder has caught his eye.
While the man in question is none other than Ainsley Maitland-Niles and with the 24-year-old currently out of favour at the Emirates, he looks set to be given a chance to rejuvenate his career.
A chance that comes courtesy of a loan move to the Italian capital and with a trio of ex-Premier League stars already plying their trade at the Stadio Olimpico, the England international looks set to be among familiar faces.
With Mourinho going back to one of his former employers in the summer, it meant that Tammy Abraham had swapped London for Rome and with the former Chelsea forward now leading the line, he joins Chris Smalling and Henrikh Mkhitaryan at the club.
Although the trio are not quite leading Roma to the top of the Serie A table, it does seem as if Mourinho is willing to place his trust in players with experience of top-flight English football and this is where Maitland-Niles will also fit the brief.
After also spending the second half of last season on loan at West Brom, he is no stranger to short-term switches and with minutes under Mikel Arteta now few and far between, a new footballing experience will obviously be of great appeal.
Whether the Maitland-Niles deal can be completed before the weekend, is something that remains to be seen and although Jose Mourinho will be keen to get a deal inked, his focus will soon shift to the visit of Juventus.
With both teams looking to reignite their hopes of a top-four Serie A finish, a win will be a must for the Romans and the Old Lady of Turin. However, in scenarios such as this, the draw becomes more likely and this can be backed at odds of 5/2.
