Arsenal Plot First Signing After Wenger Departure

Arsenal are planning for life without Arsene Wenger by targeting Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopolous this summer.

Wenger has now left the Gunners after 22 years, and although his replacement is yet to be found, they are still active in the transfer window. A defender appears to be high on their wish list, as is Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri.

But Papastathopolous could be the first man through the door post-Wenger, with the 29-year-old out of contract at the Bundesliga club.

Following Laurent Koscielny’s injury, that looks set to rule him out for six months, and Per Mertesacker’s retirement, mean defensive reinforcements are needed before next season.

Mikel Arteta is currently favourite to be named new Arsenal manager, while Juventus boss Max Allegri and former Barcelona man Luis Enrique have also been mentioned.
