Aston Villa to beat Ajax

Ollie Watkins can make Aston Villa history

Villa, currently 4th in the Premier League, are on course for one of their greatest-ever campaigns and they, in large part, have Ollie Watkins to thank for that.

After netting a brace in the 3-2 win over Luton, Watkins has been involved in 26 Premier League goals this season, the outright most of any player (16 goals, 10 assists).

He also has nine away goals in 2023/24, the joint-most by an Aston Villa player in a single Premier League campaign (level with Dwight Yorke in 1997/98).

On his star striker’s display vs Luton, Unai Emery said post-match: “Fantastic, brilliant. He is an example for other players. Every day he works hard and tries to learn more.

“His mentality is to increase his level, practising and practising. His commitment to work and the tactical idea we are doing in every match is fantastic.

“Then, he is scoring and he is getting chances. He is scoring, defending set-pieces. He is as well being strong and available for 90 minutes keeping good fitness. Really, he is fantastic. He needs his teammates as well to help him and we have to try to get individually our performances through the team.
