ATP Tennis: Paris Masters Third Round Results

Roger Federer, Andy Murray and Robin Soderling progressed to the quarter finals of the Paris Masters but defending champion Novak Djokovic was surprisingly beaten by unseeded Frenchman Michael Llodra in Thursday’s third round.

Roger Federer, Andy Murray and Robin Soderling progressed to the quarter finals of the Paris Masters but defending champion Novak Djokovic was surprisingly beaten by unseeded Frenchman Michael Llodra in Thursday’s third round.
Llodra is now the last remaining unseeded player and he delighted the home fans when beating the second seed 76(6) 62 with Djovokvic describing his opponent as playing ‘a perfect match’.
The French number four is hoping Davis Cup captain Guy Forget shares the defeated champion’s view and selects him as part of the French team to play in Belgrade in three weeks time, where Djokovic will lead the Serbian team.
Llodra meets Nikolay Davydenko in Friday’s quarter-final at 2.30pm with bookmaker Betfred offering odds of 6/5 for the Frenchman to beat the tenth seed.
Davydenko qualified after coming from a set down to beat former Paris Masters champion Tomas Berdych 46 76(5) 60.
Top seed Roger Federer cruised through his third round match against Radek Stepanek 64 63 to set up a quarter-final clash against Jurgen Meltzer.
The pair have met on two previous occasions with Federer gaining straight sets victories at this year’s Wimbledon and US Open grand slam events; the Swiss maestro should be confident of reaching the semi-finals in Paris for the first time.
British number one Andy Murray kept alive his hopes of a third tour title for the season when coming through in three sets against Marin Cilic.
It took Murray two hours and seven minutes for his 76(6) 36 63 win and he’ll play French hope Gael Monfils in Friday evening’s quarter-final.
Fourth seed Robin Soderling plays eighth seed Andy Roddick in the other quarter-final; Soderling beat Stanislas Wawrinka 76(3) 63 while Roddick defeated Ernests Gulbis 63 76(8) to qualify.
