Arsenal are set to clinch the signing of Barcelona wonderkid Joel Lopez ahead of Liverpool.
The 15-year-old left back has been playing for the Cadete A youth side at Barça and has been offered a new contract by the Catalans, but he has informed them of his decision to leave for England.
Having decided on a switch to the Emirates, he will sign on schoolboy forms until he turns 16 in March 2019, when he will turn professional. This means Arsenal will only have to pay training compensation to complete the deal.
Liverpool scouted him but their interest went no further. It is believed that former Barcelona official Raul Sanllehi, who now works for Arsenal, has played a key role in the Lopez deal.
The Gunners have a track record of signing young players from Barcelona. Cesc Fabregas and Hector Bellerin have both made the switch and developed into first team stars.
