Belarus had little chance of qualifying for the World Cup Finals from a group containing Spain and France, but were disappointing thoughout the campaign and finished bottom of the table. They played reasonably well in defeat when losing 2-1 away in Spain and have won 1-0 against Japan recently and head coach Georgi Kondratiev will be looking for more of the same against Albania. Yan Tsiharow was on the scoresheet against Japan and should retain his place in midfield with the star of the Belarus national side Alexander Hleb. Interestingly Vitali Rodionov is the only recognised striker in the squad and Kondratiev has opted for a large variety of midfield options so may make numerous changes throughout the game.
Albania were never expected to qualify from Group E and make it to the World Cup, but will be disappointed at how their campaign ended. With three games to go they were still in contention, but back-to-back losses away to Iceland and at home to Switzerland were followed by a lifless 0-0 draw with Cyprus and Albania have now not won in four matches. The Eagles will be lead out by Lazio defender Lorik Cana who may be joined at the back by St. Gallen’s Ermir Lenjani who is in line for his fist cap. Head coach Gianni De Biasi may take the opportunity to look at one or two of his less used squad players in this game, but the likes of Hamdi Salihi and Ervin Bulku are still likely to be involved.
