Betfred Sprint Cup All About Sole Power
Trainer Eddie Lynam bids for a clean sweep of top-level sprints in Britain this season with Sole Power in the Betfred Sprint Cup at 3.50 Haydock.
The Kyllachy gelding already has four Group 1 wins to his name after winning back-to-back Kings Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot and a second Nunthorpe Stakes at York on his latest start, so it’s no surprise to see Sole Power at the head of the betting.
The super sprinter has plenty in his favour today with a big field of no concern having won in events with 16, 19 and 17 runners in the past 12 months and conditions underfoot will be spot on as all 8 of the 7-year-olds turf wins have come on good ground.
However, there are one or two questions to be answered as Sole Power has been defeated in three of four starts at Haydock and perhaps more of a concern is today’s 6 furlong trip, which the horse has failed to succeed at in 7 attempts.
While the mount of Richard Hughes remains the one to beat, there are plenty of quality competitiors who will be snapping at his heels in the closing stages. Gordon Lord Byron was an impressive winner of this race last year and could go well again, while G Force finished well after being held up in the Nunthorpe and could come into the reckoning with a clear run.
Freebets.com resident tipster Alan Kelly recommended Music Master at 8/1 earlier in the week, a price which is likely to be much shorter come race off, especially now that Pricewise has also tipped his selection. Elsewhere in the field the likes of Tropics, Baccarat, Es Que Love, Moviesta, Hot Streak and Pearl Secret contribute to a stellar field and we are in for a thrilling spectacle this afternoon.
