Betting Guide To Doncaster's St Leger Festival Day 3
1.40 POLYPIPE FLYING CHILDERS STAKES ( GROUP 2 )
15 Two-year-old go to post for this 5f speed test and there is sure to be plenty of support for Cotai Glory who beat several of these when winning Glorious Goodwood’s Molecomb Stakes but no guarantee he will confirm the form against Fast Act, Beacon and Mukhmal. A nose separated Mind Of Madness and Moonraker at York’s Ebor Festival and there should be little between the pair once again while Irish filly Ainippe is an interesting contender after two promising wins but the vote goes to AHLAN EMERATI who showed plenty of pace when a close third in the Gimcrack Stakes last time and the son of Holy Roman Emperor will appreciate the drop back to the minimum trip.
ADVICE – 1 POINT E.W. AHLAN EMERATI 7-1 WITH WILLIAM HILL
2.10 LADBROKES MALLARD STAKES
Several of these ran in the Betfred Ebor last month with the Mick Channon-trained ELIDOR coming out best in third place and the consistent four-year-old is taken to confirm the form against Retirement Plan, Suegioo, Sir Walter Scott and Great Hall. The Cape Cross gelding looked to be going best of all with two furlongs to go but failed to get a clear run and when finding a gap the winner Mutual Regard had gone beyond recall. The biggest danger may turn out to be the three-year-old Adventure Seeker who finished a decent second in the Melrose Stakes at York and Ed Vaughan’s lightly-raced colt looks a stayer to follow.
ADVICE – 1 POINT E.W. ELIDOR 8-1 WILLIAM HILL
2.40 SOCIALITES ELECTRIC CIGARETTES DONCASTER CUP ( GROUP 2 )
The Ed Dunlop-trained Times Up will attempt to become the first horse to win three successive Doncaster Cup’s since 1842 but the eight-year-old will have his work cut out to turn the tables on Estimate, the pair finishing second and third in York’s Lonsdale Cup last month, but with both priced at 7-2 and 6-4 respectively it could pay to look elsewhere for a value alternative. Third favourite Whiplash Willie is unlikely to get his favoured soft ground while Clever Cookie may struggle in this company leaving ANGEL GABRIEL as the one most likely to trouble the front two. Richard Fahey’s gelding has to find three lengths plus against the Queen’s runner on York Form but Paul Hanagan’s mount wasn’t suited by the way the race was run on the Knavesmire and is best judged on his runaway victory in Newcastle’s Northumberland Plate when looking every inch a Group horse in the making over extreme trips.
ADVICE – 1 POINT E.W. ANGEL GABRIEL 12-1 BETVICTOR – SKYBET
3.15 JOHN SMITH’S EXTRA SMOOTH MAY HILL STAKES ( GROUP 2 )
Favourite Muraaqaba is the form horse based on her victory in Newmarket’s Sweet Solera Stakes last time but prior to that had proved disappointing when only fourth at Ascot and could be worth opposing at a short price. Fourth in the Newmarket race was ALONSO who failed to run her race at headquarters after looking a filly to follow when winning at Newbury and Sandown is taken to bounce back for trainer Henry Candy. Best of the outsiders could be David O’Meara’s Supreme Occasion who ran well under a big weight in a York nursery recently.
ADVICE – 1 POINT WIN ALONSO 11-2 WILLIAM HILL
3.45 COOPERS MARQUEES HANDICAP
Winner of three of his last four races Danzeno is the logical choice but the three-year-old may lack the necessary experience against a field of hardened sprint handicappers. A disappointing favourite for a valuable York handicap on his penultimate start the mount of Andrew Mullen has since bounced back with a victory in a Group 3 contest at Newcastle. Michael Appleby’s improver is greatly feared but a chance is taken on last year’s Wokingham runner-up SHROPSHIRE who ran better than his finishing position would suggest on his seasonal reappearance in Ripon’s Great St Wilfrid.
ADVICE – 1 POINT E.W. SHROPSHIRE BEST MORNING PRICE
4.25 WEATHERBYS STALLION BOOK FLYING SCOTSMAN STAKES ( LISTED )
This is likely to be all about the Luca Cumani colt White Lake who created a big impression when winning a York maiden on his debut but hard to guage the value of that form and the son of Pivotal may go off at a false price. The suggested value alternative is the Mark Johnston filly RISEN SUN who was ent off the 2-1 favourite on her debut at Hamilton and gave her supporters not a moments worry as she cruised home an easy winner and looks full of promise.
ADVICE – 1 POINT WIN RISEN SUN BEST MORNING PRICE
5.00 FRANK WHITTLE PARTNERSHIP CLASSIFIED STAKES
An open handicap to finish the card in which many can be given a chance including Enobled, Ty Gwr, Puzzle Time and Loving Home but the tentative selection is RAISE YOUR GAZE who is capable of going close at a decent price.
ADVICE – 1 POINT E.W. RAISE YOUR GAZE BEST MORNING PRICE
