Bookies expect Chelsea to hammer Portsmouth
It’s David vs. Goliath at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, as the relative paupers of Portsmouth look to upset the odds once again by beating Chelsea.
Newly-crowned Premier League champions the Blues sealed the title by a point with an 8-0 crushing of Wigan on Sunday.
And despite a mixed campaign at times they can claim an historic double in Carlo Ancelotti’s first season as manager.
The holders will be wary however of the man in the opposition dugout.
Avram Grant was an unknown quantity in many respects when he took over at Stamford Bridge following Jose Mourinho’s departure.
But after running Manchester United close in both the Premier and Champions League competitions he was lauded as somewhat of a hero.
And with Pompey already relegated to the Championship, the south coast club have nothing to lose in the showpiece final.
Even though the pressure is likely to be more on 2009 winners Chelsea, they are nonetheless huge favourites.
Despite Didier Drogba doing his best impression of a spoilt school kid in Sunday’s trouncing of Wigan, the Ivorian is in spellbinding form as ever.
He notched a hat-trick to take his total for the campaign to 29 goals making him the league’s top scorer.
Few would bet against him getting on the scoresheet this weekend.
And with Chelsea notching seven goals against Sunderland, Aston Villa and Stoke City earlier this season, they are hotly tipped to win big.
Ancelotti’s team are 7/2 with Boylesports to win by four goals or more.
Although, FA Cup finals in particular can often turn into an anti-climax, the bookies are all agreement that Chelsea have their name on the trophy.
If Grant were to pull off a shock on this occasion, it would an upset to rival the greatest cup shocks.
The game is live on ITV1 with kick-off at 3pm.
