Champion Hurdle Betting Chaos as Constitution Hill’s Participation in Doubt

The Champion Hurdle betting market has been thrown into chaos this morning after a disappointing racecourse gallop by Constitution Hill at Kempton.

Last year’s Champion Hurdle winner, Constitution Hill looked well below his best and trainer Nicky Henderson immediately asked for the horse to be scoped, which showed signs of mucus, a possible indicator of an infection.

Henderson has not ruled out the reigning champion from defending his crown and unbeaten record in two weeks time, but there must be a real question mark over Constitution Hill running at the Cheltenham Festival.

Bookmakers reacted quickly, with State Man well backed before many firms suspended betting on the race.

The Willie Mullins-trained horse is available at Evens on the Betfair Exchange for the Champion Hurdle, and having been as low as 1/4 early this morning, Constitution Hill is now 6/4 on the Exchange.
