Reece James injury blow

Ahead of facing their London rivals, Chelsea look to have been dealt an injury blow.

Reece James has been nursing a hamstring problem since the opening weekend of the new Premier League season. Earlier this week, though, there was hope that James would be available for selection on October 21 when Mauricio Pochettino welcomes the Gunners to Stamford Bridge.

However, it is now being reported that it is currently ‘too early’ to determine whether or not James will be fit enough to face Arsenal.

Journalist Nathan Gissing states that James recently sustained a knock, which a scan later adjudged him as fine, but Gissing adds that the England international has been training alone, making him a doubt now for the Arsenal meeting.

If James does miss the Arsenal clash, then Malo Gusto is expected to fill in at right-back after serving a three-match ban.

Speaking to RMC during the international break, Gusto insisted that he is ‘ready for war’ and to fight for his spot in the Chelsea starting lineup vs James: “We give each other a lot of advice, he tries to help me and I try to help him as best I can.

“On the pitch, it’s war, he knows it very well, we don’t necessarily give each other any favours and it’s the best who will play.”
