Chelsea to beat Middlesbrough

Chelsea team news

Here is the latest Chelsea team news before their clash with Middlesbrough.

Christopher Nkunku has made only four competitive appearances for Chelsea and just one start since his £52million summer transfer from RB Leipzig, having seen his return from a serious knee injury suffered in pre-season hampered by a hip problem.

However, Nkunku now hopes to be back in training at Cobham this week and is confident of being fit to face Middlesbrough.

Like Nkunku, Lavia has hardly played since joining Chelsea from Southampton in the summer. The Belgian got over his long-term ankle issue, only to then suffer a thigh problem on his Chelsea debut against Crystal Palace late last year and a new return date is currently not set.

Finally, Reece James could be out for another three months after undergoing surgery on a recurring hamstring problem.
