Chelsea are hoping to lure out of favour Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez to Stamford Bridge in a £45million January swoop.
Maurizio Sarri is looking for reinforcements in midfield despite a wealth of options in that position, and the former Napoli boss has identified Suarez as a potential target.
Suarez rejoined Barça on the cheap from Villarreal in the summer of 2016, but he has barely featured for Ernesto Valverde’s men this season, falling behind the likes of Arthur, Sergio Busquets and Ivan Rakitic in the pecking order at Camp Nou.
The Blues may need to make room themselves, though, with regular starters Jorginho and N’Golo Kante usually being joined by Ross Barkley or Mateo Kovacic in the middle.
Any potential arrival of Suarez could signal the end to Cesc Fabregas’ Chelsea career. The 32-year-old certainly isn’t in favour under Sarri in West London.
