Gordon Elliott reports it all systems go for Chicago Grey as he prepares for the Grand National at Aintree on April 14.
Elliott, who won the Aintree marathon in 2007 with Silver Birch, is delighted with his latest contender who is a 20/1 chance with Sky Bet, the online bookmaker owned by broadcasting giant BSkyB. Find out more about Sky Bet in this bookmaker review.
“It’s all systems go to the National and we’re looking forward to it,” said the County Meath handler. “We’re training him as normal, but we’ll pop him over a fence the week before the race, but he seems to be in good form so we’re very happy.”
British racegoers love a grey horse and Elliott’s nine-year-old will attempt to become the first grey since Nicolaus Silver in 1961 to win the Grand National, more recently King John’s Castle finished a gallant second to Comply or Die in 2008.
Chicago Grey made his last public appearance at Gowran Park in mid-February when he stayed on to finish second to Rubi Light over an inadequate two and a half miles. The grey prefers a stiffer challenge and has winning form over four miles at Cheltenham where he won the National Hunt Challenge Cup at the 2011 festival.
Punters can get a £10 bet on Chicago Grey to win the Grand National, completely free from Sky Bet. New customers will receive a £10 free bet immediately after opening an account, no deposit required.
