Chievo went into the two-week winter break with back-to-back defeats at home to Sampdoria (0-1) and at Torino where they lost 4-1. The results came as a blow for head coach Eugenio Corini who looked to have turned around his team’s miserable start with a run of successive victories in three previous games.
The Gialloblu are one point above the relegation zone in 16th position and will be looking to come out fresh for the resumption of their league campaign. It’s time for Chievo to start making the most of home advantage or face being drawn into a relegation fight. Their record of two wins and a draw from eight games is matched by 18th placed Sassuolo with whom they share the worst home statistics in the division.

Cagliari spent the early part of the season down with the bottom feeders but managed to climb to mid-division thanks to a run of six games without defeat. The fact that the Islanders drew four of those games may suggest Diego Lopez’ men still have their work cut out to better last season’s 11th place finish but did include highly creditable draws at Roma and home to Napoli.
The visitors are still looking for their first away win of the season and it would come as no surprise if we get a repeat of the 0-0 draw when they met here last season.
