Constitution Hill to Miss the Cheltenham Festival

After his disappointing workout at Kempton last week, Nicky Henderson has confirmed that Constitution Hill will miss this year’s Cheltenham Festival - a massive blow for racing fans.

The reigning Champion Hurdle winner, the unbeaten Constitution Hill, was odds-on to defend his title. However, with blood tests still showing signs of an infection, connections have been left with no option but to miss the national hunt showpiece.

Constitution Hill’s loss is likely to be State Man’s gain, with the Willie Mullins-trained horse now the antepost favourite for the feature race on day one of the Festival.

With Constitution Hill now set to be absent, it will be interesting to see what other horses take their chance in the Champion Hurdle, with the Gordon Elliott-trained Irish Point an intriguing possibility, although connections may feel he has a better chance of success in Thursday’s Stayers’ Hurdle.
