The Portuguese superstar, who turns 33 next month, had been the subject of rumours linking him with a return back to Manchester United because he was unhappy with his current contract at the Santiago Bernabeu.
That link has been a regular occurrence over the last few years because Ronaldo had six very successful years at Old Trafford, but he insists he wants to stay in Spain, albeit not as long as he had originally hoped.
Of course I want to stay here, I love this club, he said.
”I like living here. I’ve lived in this city since 2009 and I love the weather and the people. It’s close to Portugal and you can get there by car. Spain is a great country, I love it.”
“Now, my plan to retire at 41 will probably be a bit more difficult to achieve, and now we live in the moment.”
Ronaldo will be hoping to overtake his rival Lionel Messi in the Ballon d’Or record books by winning a sixth in 2018.
