Dante Winner Best Price 6/1 For Investec Derby

Aidan O'Brien's Cape Blanco ran out a decisive winner of York's totesport Dante Stakes and is now a top price 6/1 for Epsom glory.

The Aidan O’Brien Derby train got back on track at York today when his Cape Blanco ran out a comfortable winner of the Group 2 totesport Dante Stakes.

The 9/2 winner is now a best price 6/1 with Paddy Power and Boylesports for the Investec Derby on June 5th.

The Galileo colts’ pedigree hardly shouts out " Derby " as the dam, Laurel Delight, was a five furlong sprinter and a half-sister to the top class speedster Paris House.

Johnny Murtagh’s mount was hardly stopping at the end of today’s race and this could be a case of the sire having the greater stamina influence.

The winning connections also have the Derby favourite St Nicholas Abbey, who has been shortened for the race, with William Hill’s 3/1 a standout price.

Runner-up Workforce ran like a horse who is still very green and it is unlikely Epsom’s camber will suit the son of King’s Best, while the big disappointment of the race was Chabal, who, according to jockey Frankie Dettori " Was beat four out."

Two of last seasons’ top fillies, Sariska and Midday, locked horns once more in the totesport.com Middleton Stakes, with the former making all to record a 1 3/4 length victory.

Sariska beat her rival in two Group 1 races last year which makes a mockery of the race conditions, which stated that Henry Cecil’s charge had to give 5lb to the field having won a Group1 Race after 31st August.

If both fillies had ran off level weights today the end result would have been very difficult to call!
