Bookmakers are offering free bets and many special bets on this week’s Omega Dubai Desert Classic which features Tiger Woods who is playing in the tournament for the first time since winning the event in 2008 .
With total prize money of $2.5M the Dubai Desert Classic is one of the most prestigious of golf’s European Tour events and has attracted a great field including World No.1 Lee Westwood and World No. 2 Martin Kaymer who has already won on the European Tour this year .
Of course much attention will be focused on Woods who could only finish a disappointing 44th on his re-appearance in the Farmers Insurance Open two weeks ago . However in five starts in Dubai , Woods has never finished outside the top five and has won in 2006 and 2008 and is joint favourite with many bookmakers and top price at odds of 6/1 with Boylesports who offer a £40 free bet to all new customers who deposit and bet £20 or more .
History suggests that desert golf form stands up better than on other courses and the Dubai Desert Classic has been generally won by a fancied contender in recent years as four of the last seven tournaments have been won by a previous major champion .
Thomas Bjorn has a great record in Dubai having won here in 2001 with an amazing score of 22 under par . Having just won last weekend in Qatar by four shots the Dane will be hoping to maintain his form for the last week of th “Desert Swing” and is decent each way value at odds of 55/1 with Betfred who will pay 1/4 odds for a finish in the top 5 .
All four days from the Emirates Golf Club in Dubai are covered live on Sky Sports .
