Eddie Howe provides Callum Wilson & Anthony Gordon injury updates after Dortmund loss

Newcastle United travelled to Germany on Wednesday evening for a Champions League meeting with Borussia Dortmund.

When all was said and done, the Magpies fell to a 2-0 defeat and now likely need to beat PSG and AC Milan in their final two group games to qualify for the latter stages of the competition.

Newcastle’s next outing comes vs Bournemouth on Saturday and they will be eager to bounce back after a midweek blow. Back Newcastle to beat Bournemouth at 13/20 with bet365.

Newcastle handed fresh injury concerns

Newcastle faced off with Borussia Dortmund already dealing with a number of injury concerns such as Dan Burn, Alexander Isak, Harvey Barnes and Jacob Murphy.

The North East outfit were then dealt two fresh concerns on Tuesday evening as Anthony Gordon did not start and Callum Wilson was taken off at half-time.

Speaking post-match, Howe explained why Gordon did not start vs BVB: “We’ve lost the ability to make certain decisions,” the Newcastle boss said. “Gordon played 90 mins against Arsenal and the turnaround was too quick so we wanted to use him as an impact player.”

On Callum Wilson, who appeared to suffer a hamstring issue, Howe added: “It’s too early to say if he’s out for the weekend.”
